Preliminary Business

  • Online ESCIs for Spring 2020 courses -- now through June 5:

One or more of your Sprng 2020 UCSB courses is collecting student feedback using the online course evaluation system, called the ESCI Online pilot.

Login at https://esci.id.ucsb.edu with your UCSBnetID and password so the system can find your courses and give you the correct questionnaires. Your responses are anonymous! Your  UCSBnetID is stripped from your responses when you submit a questionnaire.

Important Information:

 * Submit your course feedback by Friday, June 5 at midnight.

 * Additional email reminders will be sent until you have completed all of your course evaluations.

 * Instructors can only access survey response rates (i.e. how many students have responded, but not who has responded or their responses).

 * After grades are submitted instructors receive a summarized report of student feedback from their department.

 * Your thoughtful, constructive feedback is valuable to faculty and departments to:

     * Help instructors improve courses and instruction.

     * Provide student perspective for instructor retention and promotion cases.

  • The purpose of ESCI's:
    • (1) Helping instructors improve teaching and courses
      • Feedback can help guide instructors going forward as remote teaching continues into the summer and possibly next year. While instructors had no lead time for converting courses to remote teaching this Spring, they could learn from student feedback for future quarters when they have more preparation time.
    • (2) Assisting the university in the evaluation of instructors for purposes such as promotion
